Chapter 2 – Attacked at Night
Lily POV
I knew that we had to be on our guard at the moment. Voldemort had heard nothing more about Dumbledores' plans and that was a worry. How were we going to protect ourselves if he came without us having any warning beforehand? He was strong and we all knew that, but Voldemort was as strong as him. It was good when he and Hermione came to spend some time with us during the day. It gave me some peace from having Harry annoying me.
If Severus heard nothing more, well, then we were going to be in trouble should Dumbledore come unexpected. Severus had a dangerous job though, spying on Dumbledore while pretending to be the Potions professor.
Hogwarts though would eventually send out a letter to Harry, and I knew that he had to go when the day came. Harry and Hermione were becoming such good friends, and though she was no pure blood witch, though I cared not, I knew that one day they might grow to be more than friends. When that time came though, I had no doubt that Hermione would be a very pretty girl.
I smiled though as I headed into the house for the night. James would be coming home soon, after having another argument about building our own Quidditch Pitch out in the backyard with the Ministry of Magic. I sighed though, as I moved into the small kitchen we had and started getting things ready for dinner. Magic was so useful at times, and everything I had to do, I could do just by waving my wand.
“When's daddy coming home?” harry asked, coming into the kitchen.
“He'll be home soon, Harry.” At least if anything happened to us, Harry would be safe. Voldemort knew that if James and I died somehow, that Harry was to go to live with my sister, Petunia, her son Dudley, and Muggle husband, Vernon. We were on good terms at the moment, so Harry would be safe there. At least that was what James and I wanted at the moment for our boy.

We'd just put Harry to bed, when James saw someone coming up the path near the garden. I looked at the time... 10pm? Who would want to visit us at this hour of the night? It was not natural even for our type of people. Then James looked at me as the front door opened, at the word: “Alohomora!”
It was not one of our friends.
“Lily, get Harry and send that Patronus of yours to tell the others we're being attacked. I'll stall him for what time I can.”
“Be careful,” I muttered, kissing him gently. Then I hurried up the stairs, towards Harry's room. Entering, I thought of a happy memory and waving my wand, in a soft voice I spoke once, “Expecto patronum!” The silver doe rushed from the room as I picked Harry up from his bed.
“Avada Kedava!” shouted a voice and it was not my James... I heard someone fall to the ground... and I knew James was gone.
I was glad in a way that my Patronus had gotten away before that. Then the door opened and I turned side on, blocking Harry from view. He seemed to know something was going on and was staying quiet.
“Move out of the way, girl,” Dumbledore spoke.
“No.”
We argued for a bit, but I ended up screaming at him. “Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!”
“Stand aside, you silly girl... stand aside, now...”
“Not harry, please no, take me, kill me instead...”
“Stand aside, you silly girl... stand aside, now...”
“Not Harry! Please … have mercy … have mercy...”
He seemed to tire of this because the wand raised, this time pointing at me. “I will kill you, but there is nothing staying in the way for him not to die as well... Lily Potter.” He paused... “Avada Kevada!” A green jet of light flew from the wand striking me in the chest.
I knew no more..
