((Death of the Soaring Excert))
Börje sighed once the door closed behind Honora. He did wonder as to what his mother had hidden in that little hidden shelf. It was a curious thing for her to hide in a place he was more than likely to find it after all. What could she had thought so important that she had to hide it like this? Smiling to himself, he headed over to the desk to examine the scroll case.
The seal around the opening was already broken which meant someone else had found it once. He wondered whether his mother knew about it having been opened or not before. Carefully he opened the leather covering and pulled out the scroll inside, surprised when he found that there were three inside. Swiftly he unfurled the first scroll.
It was a death certificate that had his name on it. He read through the scroll, seeing that he had apparently been still born on the day he was born. How could he be alive then? This made no sense at all. Quickly he reached for the second scroll and looked at the writing on it. It was certainly his mother Queen Maja’s writing, he knew it very well.
On the 15th May 1102 I gave birth to a little boy, whilst visiting Harn’s End. My son though was born still, and therefore I could not raise him as a son of my own. Therefore I sought out the Regan baby that had been born on the same day, before I allowed anyone to see me. He would become my little Börje, though it was unfortunate that the true Börje is buried in Harn's End.
I have been informed that the child who I now have was to be known as Nioclás Rían Ó Ceallacháin, and that he is the youngest son of Ádhamh Gréagóir Ó Ceallacháin and Bébhinn Ita Ó Ceallacháin. Nevertheless he will never learn of this, and I will raise him as an imperial prince instead of the miserable slave he would have been destined to become.
He blinked at the words on the scroll, unable to believe what they said though he knew they were right. Always, he had been different to the others and that was something that had often gotten him quite annoyed. The constant teasing from Dionysius when they grew up together had been ridiculous. Queen Maja had always told him that there were nothing to be ashamed off, that her parents had both been half Regan and that was where he got his skin and appearance from.
Now though he knew it was a lie. For there was nothing Regan about Dionysius and that was something that he knew most of the people knew. He sighed, sitting there, before reaching for the second scroll. This was the scroll that bore his name, but it was a death scroll. There was a third in there, and he looked at it eagerly. It was a copy of the O’ Ceallacháin family tree, and he spotted his Regan name was on there, but his other name, Börje was written underneath it. He blinked though at the name next to him. “Honora Bébhionn Ó Ceallacháin…”
His slave was his sister? And if this were true…. Did she know that he had gone missing from their parents so soon after he was born? Or had the whole things been covered up? It looked like he would have to make a trip to Cytron to meet with his true parents. Surely they would remember him? The son they had never gotten to look after? Would they even want to know him? He knew he was certainly ignorant of the way the Regan interacted with each other. How could he possibly fit in around them?
This was not going to be something that he would find it easy to talk to her about. She was a wonderful young lady, yes, but that was something that would make things all the more harder. Slaves were never meant to be a part of the Imperial family. Yet here he was, an Imperial Prince who was of Regan blood. It made him wonder why his mother had chosen him of all Regan to be her son. All that connected him to being chosen was being born on the same date as her still born son.
It was something that he would have to talk about with Honora, he knew that much. But how was he want to tell her that he was her lost brother? He furled the scrolls up, and put them back in the case before sealing it up and setting it on the desk before him, just in time for the door to open and Honora herself to come in. He frowned at the case, trying to figure out in his head what to do.
“Is something wrong, máistier?” Honora asked, as she put the tray of food down in front of him. She seemed concerned about him. Had his thought been that obvious to her? He certainly hoped not. Now she had asked though and he would have to reply in some way. He pondered her question while he started to eat, letting the food be a distraction for the moment.
He looked up. “Your parents.. they are Ádhamh Gréagóir Ó Ceallacháin and Bébhinn Ita Ó Ceallacháin are they not?” She nodded. He sighed, this made things harder. She was certainly his older sister, he knew that now. And it was something that concerned him. His sister was his slave. Well, he had never had something so strange happen to him. It looked like he was going to have to go and speak with his mother about this, but while Lord Ruben was here, there was no chance of that.
He knew Queen Maja would do anything to stay in power, even when her husband died. And the knowledge of Börje himself being a Regan was something he knew would make her want to kill him. Or worse, torture him into forgetting everything about himself and casting him into exile.
